June 30
I can’t believe June is almost over…and more importantly this trip.
So this morning was kind of annoying. Being a free day, we had planned on going to the beach after sleeping in. I guess the communication was bad between the groups. Our room had no idea when the train left…and we woke up a little late. No one let us know the plan even after we went down to breakfast till it was like 10 minutes away and everyone else was already ready. So we rushed and got ready…then ran (seriously ran) all the way to the train station (a ten + minute walk) just to watch it leave as we arrived (just like a TV show or something). Anyway, so they others made it and the next train didn’t leave for another two hours. So we decided not to go to the beach. We instead walked back to the hotel (freaking sweaty and burning hot) and showered and got ready for another day in Venice.
We actually got over the morning thing…after all I realized that jeez- I am in Italy, it’s warm, and who cares. We took the water bus (it’s a bus on the water literally…funny they have water ways and boats instead of roads and cars.) to get to San Marco to find the good shopping and see the sights. We did, got some pictures, did some bargaining, got ice cream (Twice! It was good. PS I didn’t eat lunch so it’s ok. Not that I need to justify myself or anything…), and it was fun. I actually spent quite a bit of money today on gifts and stuff.
Later on we bumped into two guys, Blake and Jeff, from New Jersey and we hung out with them for the remainder of the night. We first did a gondola ride (80 Euro)…it was so perfect- Just like I had imagined it. The city is wonderful; every water way is beautifully different with lots of color. Also, we went at a good time when it was nice and quiet. After that we had dinner. It was good but ridiculously expensive. Lila and I shared a tiny yet 10 Euro lasagna. They also surprise charged us a ton for water (which is usually free), the bread (which you would think just comes with the meal), and they included a tip. So I paid 11 for that; I was still hungry and mad afterwards. (I did try mussels though.) Then we went back to the train station and came back to the hotel…sad, bye Venice. Ciao Sharele
